Edgar Muenala and Native American Dance Performance in A Window To The World Concert in Vancouver

Edgar Muenala played the flute while a First Nations dancer performed an American Indian fancy shawl dance at A Window To The World 世界之窗 concert in Vancouver’s Granville Island Stage on June 24, 2012.

Edgar Muenala was born in Ecuador and has been living in Vancouver Canada and traveling the world to perform for more than 20 years. He was inspired by his native South American music and Asian culture and wanted to create a fusion of sounds that brought together different traditional instruments and a diversity of rhythms and electronic digital effects to form his own contemporary style.

Edgar Muenala Pan Flute & Accordion Cumbia Gringa with Eric D’onofrio – A Window To The World 世界之窗 Concert

Edgar Muenala performed Cumbia Gringa with accordionist Eric D’onofrio at A Window To The World 世界之窗 concert in Vancouver’s Granville Island Stage on June 24, 2012. As usual, Muenala played the pan flute and did a little singing for this South America musical number as well.

Benny Prasad Played Bongo Harp Guitar and ‘Shout To The Lord’ at Edgar Muenala’s A Window To The World

From India, Benny Prasad’s unique musical instrument is the Bethar, a bongo harp guitar. As part of pan-flute extraordinaire Edgar Muenala’s A Window To The World 世界之窗 concert, Prasad performed two of his well-known tunes: Shout to the Lord and I Stand Amazed. The concert was held at the Granville Island Stage in Vancouver on June 24, 2012.

Zhambai Trio Bongo Beat Drives Traffic at Car Free Day 2012 Vancouver The Drive

The Zhambai Trio performed at The Drive on Car-Free Day Vancouver 2012. Instead of vehicle traffic, freedom and creativity roam. It affects everyone. Grown-ups played like kids on the street. Pedestrians stroll leisurely along the yellow line. African bongo drum, marimba and percussion music filled the air.

Band members include Kurai Mubaiwa (from Zimbabwe), Curtis Andrews and Navaro Franco.

City of Bhangra 2012 Closing Gala Dance, A Multicultural Diversity Celebration at Vancouver HSBC Bank

The Closing Gala Dance Celebration for the 2012 HSBC City of Bhangra concluded a week long festivities at the HSBC Bank of Canada headquarters in Vancouver BC on June 10, 2012. Under the giant Swinging Pendulum, the energetic South Asian Bollywood-styled moves were presented by the HSBC Bhangra Team, a group of HSBC employees with no former training and took only weeks of practicing their dance moves to Punjabi-themed remix music by DJ Rekha. A convincing and winning act!

Downtown Bhangra 2012 – Bikram Singh in HSBC VIBC City of Bhangra Festival Outside Vancouver Art Gallery

New York-based Bikram Singh came to Vancouver to perform South Asian Indian Punjabi song and dance at Downtown Bhangra 2012. The event is organized by the Vancouver International Bhangra Celebration (VIBC) Society and is part of the City of Bhangra Festival from May 31 to June 10, 2012. The HSBC Bank Canada sponsored festival offers free concerts and dance performances in front of the Vancouver Art Gallery (VAG) and ticketed events at the W2 Media Café, the HSBC Pendulum Gallery and other venues. Featured performers included Anakh E Gabroo, A-Slam, Indanation, Bikram Singh, Luv Randhawa, UNC Bhangra Elite, Panj Girls etc.

Once again, it is Bollywood in Vancouver!

EuroFest BC 2012 – Portugal Cruz de Cristo & Croatia Tamburica Orchestra, Vancouver Canada Multiculturalism

Featured here are Cruz de Cristo from Portugal and Tamburica Orchestra Kardinal Stepinac from Croatia that performed at the EuroFest BC 2012, a pan-European cultural event that highlighted many of the smaller Euro nations such as Slovakia, Ukraine, Poland, Bulgaria, Armenia, Bosnia & Herzegovina, Switzerland, Hungary, Romania, Czech Republic, Azerbaijan together with Russia, Spain, France, Germany and England. The one-day festivities which reflected Canada’s multiculturalism were organized by the EuroFest BC Society and took place on May 26, 2012 at the Swanguard Stadium in Burnaby, BC (right next to Vancouver).
